Aileen Schwalm
December 28, 1919 — March 26, 2008
Rauha Aileen Kultala Schwalm, age 88 of Baraga passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
She was born on December 28, 1919, in Baltic, MI daughter to the late Frans "Eli" and Maria (Somero) Kultala. Aileen attended Baltic and Pelkie schools and graduated from Baraga High School in 1940. She lived in Pelkie from 1946 until moving to Baraga in 1990. Aileen married Fred Schwalm her loving husband of 59 years.
She was a member of the Baraga Senior Center, Baraga Civic Club, and the Red Hat Society. Aileen enjoyed doing needle work and traveling.
Surviving are her son Fred Schwalm Jr. of Pelkie; daughter Karen (Glenn Robertson) Schwalm of Port McNeill, B.C., Canada; brothers William Kultala of St. Claire Shores, MI, Ray (Winnie) Kultala of Glendale, AR; sister Betty Pelto of Sterling Heights, MI; 2 step grandchildren Kim (Ryan) Shier and Nolan Robertson both of British Columbia, Canada; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her husband Fred; brother Frank Kultala; sisters Ann Muckenfuss and Helga Edelen.
Graveside services will be held in Pelkie Cemetery on Friday, May 16th at 2:00 pm. There will be no visitation or funeral service. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
