Aili Ellen Lahti

Aili Ellen Lahti, 93, of East Lansing, formerly of L'Anse, died Sunday morning, March 5, 2006 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

She was born February 15, 1913, in Herman, MI, a daughter of the late Hemming and Elsie (Pekkala) Johnson. She attended the Zeba Foote School and L'Anse High School. Aili had lived in Diorite, Marquette and Zeba, but spent most of her years in Aura. For the last few years of her life she had been a resident of White Hills Health Care Center in East Lansing.

Aili married Edward J. Lahti on February 25, 1932 in Hancock, MI and he preceded her in death on July 19, 1997.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, US-China Friendship Association, the Aura Cooperative Association, Women's Extension Club, 4-H Council and a 4-H Leader for several years and was a Toastmistress.

Aili is survived by a son, William (Dixie) Lahti of Haslett, Michigan; 4 grandchildren, William B., Edward A., Russell J. (Amanda) and Aliisa L. Lahti; 2 great-grandchildren, Uriah J. and Aili Rose Lahti; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Edward, she was preceded in death by 4 children, Walfred, Marvin, Dennis and Bertha and a brother, Toivo Pekonen.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Jacobson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Aura Cemetery in the spring.
