Albert Edward Koski, 93, a former resident of Keweenaw Bay, Mi passed away on Wednesday evening, January 11, 2012 at the Shulstad Leisure Living Home in Baraga, MI following a long illness.

He was born December 29, 1918 in the family farmhouse in Keweenaw Bay, a son of William and Ida (Pieti) Koski.

He attended the Sturgeon River School for five years. He walked over a thousand times to that school which was a mile from his home. He went to the Keweenaw Bay Grade School for his last three years of education. He rode the bus to that school.

Albert was married to Aileen Hietala of Chassell on August 30, 1941. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last summer.

He was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Congregation of L'Anse.

Albert farmed most of his life, first, for his parents; and then in July of 1947, Albert and his wife bought the family farm. They sold it to their daughter and son-in-law on January 1, 1982. He continued to help on the farm. He baled 6,000 bales of hay at the age of 90. He milked cows until his late 80's.

He was involved in various farm organizations. In 1971, Albert and Aileen were honored at the U.P. State Fair in Escanaba for being the top butterfat herd in the U.P.

Albert also was the sexton of the Keweenaw Bay Cemetery for 70 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his five brothers, Axel, Aale, Alpi, Arvid, and Arthur; and one sister, Saima.

He is survived by his wife, Aileen; three sons, Roger (Jan) of Keweenaw Bay, John (Anita) of Chassell, Gordon of Keweenaw Bay; two daughters, Helen (Jim) Urpila and Elaine (Jake) Jahfetson both of Keweenaw Bay; 14 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephew, and cousins.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 14th at 1:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse, with Rev. Richard Eskola officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A luncheon and fellowship will follow at the Keweenaw Bay Fire Hall. The burial will be in the spring in the Keweenaw Bay Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial be given to the Keweenaw Bay Cemetery or to the First Apostolic Lutheran Congregation of L'Anse. Both memorials in c/o Gordon Koski, 13859 Sturgeon Rd., Baraga, MI 49908.
