Albert A. Niemi, age 85 passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at Covington Rest Home, Covington, Michigan.
Albert was born on April 17, 1919 in Finland. He was eleven years old when he came with his two brothers and his parents Jacob and Emilia Niemi to the United States. He married to Viola Katherine Norback in 1946 and spent his married years in Covington, Michigan.
Albert was in the US Army during WWII and was a member of the VFW Post 8945 in Covington. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on vehicles. He spent many hours in his garage working and visiting with people who stopped to chat. He loved to watch his grandchildren play and spent as much time as he could with them. He also enjoyed comparing his great grandchildren to his grandchildren... Always saying how much they were like their mothers and fathers.
He is survived by two sons, Stanley (Sally) Niemi of Skandia, MI William (Susan) Hemminger of Covington, MI; two daughters, Shirley (Jeff) Bjurstrom of Kenton, MI and Barbara Raby of Covington, MI. He also leaves behind six granddaughters, one grandson, five great-granddaughters, and one great grandson, his sister-in-law Verna (Attie) Niemi of Taylor, MI and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents, his wife Viola, two brothers Adolph and Attie, two granddaughters, one grandson, and one great grandson preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 24 at 2:00 PM at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Pastor Mark Reinsch will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The Baraga County Veterans will conduct military services at 1:45 PM. Burial will be held in the Covington Cemetery in the spring. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
