Alfred Fabian Haataja, 74, of Zeba, died Friday morning, April 21, 2006, at his home following a battle with cancer.
Fabian was born in Elo, Michigan son of the late Alfred Karl and Olga (Sillampaa) Haataja. He was in the Army for 2 years; sailed on the Great Lakes on Iron Ore ship for many years. Fabian also worked at Van Straten's for many years. He loved his gardening, hunting, and fishing. Fabian enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Nancy (Knapp); daughter Vicki (Dave) Dompier of Baraga, Fabian Haataja Briggs of Sanbernadino, Tim Haataja Tilson of L'Anse, Dale Haataja Tilson of L'Anse, Weylin (Amy) Haataja of L'Anse; step children, Clyde "Darryl" Koski of Lena, WI, Lisa M. Denomie of Baraga, Roy "Donny" (Beth) Koski of West Bend, WI; 19 grandchildren, Kerri, Scott, Donna, Alex, Alisha, Ronny, Ricky, LeAnn, Tina, Mitchell, his sunshine Winter, Orion, Koda, Darryl, Joan, Jennifer, Nancie, Tyler, Jessica and Ryan; seven great grandchildren, Domenic, Samantha, Vincente, Kieghlee, Reina, Shelby and Haily; brothers, Willard of Hancock, Alex (Rosemary) of L'Anse, Louis (Judy) of Baraga, Severi of Arnheim, and Leslie of Elo; sisters, Betty (Eddie) Holzman of Baraga, Jean (Ray) Juntunen of Baraga, Jenny Kaster of Elo, and Elma (Mike) Heikkinen of Elo.
Preceded in death are a daughter Terry and son Ricky; brothers Brynoff, Earnest, Norman; sisters, Nelda and Martha.
The funeral service will be held on Monday April 24, at 12 noon at the Zeba Indian Mission United Methodist Church with Rev. John Henry officiating. Visitation will be from 10 am until the time of service. The internment will be at the Pinery Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
