Alice C. Heikkinen, age 82 of Alston passed away on Monday, March 18, 2002 at Bayside Village in L'Anse.
She was born January 29, 1920 in Bronx, New York, daughter of the late Eric and Alina Hofman. Alice grew up in Brooklyn, NY. She married Ernest Heikkinen on September 13, 1940 in Maryland. They resided in Brooklyn and Alice worked as a floor secretary in the Norwegian Hospital. They moved to Detroit in 1952, where she worked at Beaumont Hospital. After living in Detroit for 25 years they retired and moved to Alston.
Alice was a member of the L'Anse United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed knitting.
She is survived by her husband Ernest of Alston; sons, Martin (Darlene) Heikkinen and Doug (Debbie) Heikkinen, both of Royal Oak, MI; brother, Carl (Mary) Hofman of Staten Island, NY; sisters, Martha Laycock of Florida, Evelyn Johnson of Hicksville Long Island, NY; and six grandchildren.
Alice is preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Berg and Elsie Lindell.
The family requests that memorials be made to the L'Anse United Methodist Church Building Fund.
The funeral service will be on Friday, March 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the L'Anse United Methodist Church. Rev. David Snyder will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. The Eastern Star will conduct a service on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, MI. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
