Alice E. (Jolgren) Juntunen

Alice Elna Evelyn Juntunen, age 93, of Baraga, passed away on November 2, 2019 at Bayside Village in L’Anse, MI. She was born in Pelkie, MI on January 28, 1926, the daughter of the late Emil and Hilda (Lexon) Jolgren. As a child, Alice was so eager to attend school, she started kindergarten when she was only 4 years old. She graduated from Baraga High School in 1943 and then worked for several years at two local grocery stores (Maki’s and the Pelkie Co-op). On September 3, 1955, Alice married Arnold Juntunen in Laurium, MI and they were together for 61 years. He preceded her in death on September 12, 2016.

Alice loved visiting with friends and family, picking fresh raspberries in the garden, solving crosswords and word-find puzzles and she rarely missed an episode of “Wheel of Fortune”. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and listening to music, especially when she and Arnold used to attend dances at the Eagles Club in South Range.

Surviving are her children, Dale (Marie) of Venice, FL and Debbie of South Lyon, MI; brother, Leland Jolgren of Plymouth, MI; sister-in-laws Lillian (Pete) Van Straten of Pequaming, MI, Jane Juntunen of Greenland, MI; Jeanette Juntunen of Farmington Hills, MI; brother-in-laws Harold Juntunen of Livonia, MI, James R. Loman of Baraga; granddaughter Rebeccca (Ian) Wilson of Madison, WI; and grandpuppy Maggie. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister Lillian Maliniemi, brothers Hubert, Wilbert, Raymond, William and Roy.

The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Baraga with Pastor Julie Belew officiating. Visitation will be for an hour before the service. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Burial will take place in the Pelkie Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
