Alma Alina Humphreys, 89, of Muskegon, Michigan, died Thursday, May 25, 2006 at her home in Village of the Oaks in Muskegon.
She was born May 26, 1916, in Covington, MI, a daughter of Victor and Lydia (Katjamaki) Hill. Alma was a Kenton High School graduate. She was a WWII veteran, having served in the Navy.
Alma worked as Postmaster in Covington until her marriage to John Humphreys in 1960. Alma & John resided in Kent City and Grand Rapids. They traveled to many places and eventually settled in Port Charlotte, Florida. Alma relocated to Muskegon in 2002 to be closer to a sister.
She is survived by a brother, William (Alice) Hill; sisters, Aileen Hutula, Elsie Heer and Minerva Johnson; step-children, Robert (Vonda) Humphreys, John (Catherine) Humphreys, Mary (Leonard) Carlson, Joyce (Almin) Thompson; many nieces, nephews, friends and caregivers at Village of the Oaks. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and 2 brothers, Edwin & Arvid.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 9, 2006 at 11 a.m. in Bethany Lutheran Church in Covington with Rev. Johnathon Rager officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be in the Covington Cemetery where the Baraga County Area Veterans will perform military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hackley Visiting Nurse Services and Hospice.
