Alyce Lenore Kemppainen

Alyce Lenore Kemppainen, age 80 of Pelkie, MI passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2009 at Bayside Village in L'Anse.

She was born June 3, 1929 in Alston, MI daughter to John and Hilda (Martinmaki) Saaranen. Alyce grew up in Alston and graduated from Baraga High School. She married Kenneth R. Kemppainen on October 18, 1947. They resided on the family homestead in Gidding near Limestone Mountain. She enjoyed camping and spending time with her family at the Otter River, ice skating, downhill skiing, raising poodles, and loved animals. Alyce lived for her home and family.

Surviving are her children, John (Lisa) Kemppainen of Tapiola, MI, Mari (Tom) Koponen of Pelkie, MI, Deborah (Randy) Coppler of Baraga, MI; sisters Arlene (Floyd) Godward and Eva Mae Kemppainen both of Pelkie; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a dear friend Bob Gilstrom of Greenland, MI.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Kenneth Kemppainen; and granddaughter Sara Lynne Coppler.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 29th at 2:00 pm at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Ron Martinmaki will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A luncheon and fellowship will follow the service in the Sharing Room at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Alston Cemetery in the spring.
