Ann Irene Marttila, 88, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025, at Bayside Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in L'Anse, Michigan, after a long and courageous battle with dementia.
Born on June 6, 1936, in Covington, Michigan, Ann spent most of her life in her beloved hometown, where she raised her family and remained close to her sisters. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, known for her kindness, warmth, and deep love for those around her.
Ann is reunited in peace with her beloved husband, Wesley Marttila; her parents, Matilda and Oscar Niemela; her brothers, John, Raymond, Charles, and William Niemela; and her sisters, Elsie Mattson, Helen Peck, and Viola Webb.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Alan (Cheryl) Marttila, Michael (Terry) Marttila, and Julie Presley; her cherished granddaughter, Amanda Presley; and her dear sisters, Cookie (Donald) Perrow, Doris Chaudier, Judy Ross, and Jean (Gerald) Norback. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who affectionately knew her as "Auntie Annie."
Ann will be laid to rest beside her husband at Covington Cemetery. A private graveside service for family will be held at a later date.
In honor of Ann's memory, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer's research.
