Ann Marie Oakes, 37, of L'Anse, died Sunday morning, September 4, 2005, at her home, following a lengthy illness.
She was born February 2, 1968, in L'Anse, a daughter of Leonard and Carol (Cholette) Mannikko and has been a lifelong area resident.
Ann was a 1987 graduate of L'Anse High School and received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Northern Michigan University in 1992.
She was employed as a black jack dealer at the Ojibwa Casino more than nine years.
Ann was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and was involved with the senior choir at the church. She was also a member of the Baraga County Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, serving as chaplain and was a Cub Scout leader.
She is survived by her 3 sons, Robert Oakes of Lake Linden, Joseph Oakes and T.J. Oakes, both of L'Anse; parents, Leonard and Carol Mannikko of L'Anse; 2 brothers, William (Robin) Mannikko of Indiana and Christopher Mannikko of L'Anse; and a sister, Mary Remer of Las Vegas, NV.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Jacobson Funeral Home. The Eagles Auxiliary will conduct a prayer service at 7 p.m. in the funeral home followed by a parish prayer service. Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Rev. George Maki officiating. Interment will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
