Asenath Karen (Stein) Sweeney

Asenath Karen Sweeney, age 75 of Aura, MI passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017 at her home.
She was born May 19, 1942 in Detroit, MI daughter to Elmer and Saima (Lahti) Stein. Asenath grew up in Aura, graduated from L’Anse High School in 1960, and attended Michigan Technology University. She worked as a medical technician for several years at the Ontonagon Hospital. On December 31, 1963, she married Roland Sweeney and moved to Pisa Italy due to her husband’s military assignment. They returned to the states to raise their family. Asenath managed Country Cottage Jewelers for 15 years prior to opening her own store, Asenath’s Jewelry & Gifts, for 17 years in L’Anse.
After retiring, she enjoyed gardening, crafting, golfing, quilting, and being a grandmother.
Asenath was a member of United Lutheran Church, Red Hats, Garden Club, Aura Hospital Auxiliary, Aura Fireman’s Auxiliary, and FiFi’s.
Surviving are her husband Roland of Aura; son Brandon (Sabrina Snyder) Sweeney of L’Anse; daughters, Tracie (John Burrow) Sweeney of Nampa, ID, Cheryl (Doug) Mills of Aura; brothers, Arlen Stein of L’Anse, Alan Stein of Aura; sister-in-law Pat Stein of Aura; grandchildren, Rebecca, Rachel, Sarah, Caleb, Kegan, Kolyn, Adelyn, and grand dog Tripper.
Preceding her in death are her parents and brother Adrian Stein.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 4th from 10-12 pm at Jacobson Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 12 pm at the funeral home with Rev John Ansell officiating. Burial will be in the Aura Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Aura Fire Hall. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
