Audrey E. Vachon, age 81, of Baraga, passed away May 14, 2014 at Bayside Village Nursing Home in L'Anse following a lengthy illness. She was born in Blissfield, MI on April 3, 1933, the daughter of the late John and Betty (McIntyre) Berger of Blissfield. Audrey graduated from Blissfield High School in 1951. On January 28, 1965 she married Erik Vachon in Adrian Michigan. Audrey and Erik resided in Adrian until 1970, L'Anse for 17 years and then Baraga for the past 26. She worked as head cashier at Wrigley's Supermarket in Adrian, MI and at Larry's Super Value bakery in L'Anse, MI.
Audrey is survived by her husband Erik of Baraga, son Steve (Sharon) Vachon of Plainfield, IL, daughter Lori (Wayne) Karvonen Jr. of Arnheim, sister Eileen (Dale) Trimble of Coruna, MI, brother Dennis Berger of Florida, grandchildren Scott and Thomas Vachon, Caylin and Erik Karvonen, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Betty "Goldie" Berger, brothers Howard, Harold, Ralph and Bruce Berger, and also by her sisters Geraldine Berger and Sharlene Berger.
Audrey's passions in life were her family and her home. She enjoyed her houseplants, taking rides on woods roads, wildlife, feeding birds and squirrels, Country-Western music, and crocheting. She especially loved children and not only raised her own but also her younger siblings following her mother's passing. She also enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren.
Audrey's wishes were to be cremated without traditional funeral services. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, May 23rd from 10-12:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Friends may sign Audrey's guest book or send condolences at www.jacobsonfuneralhome.com
