Bernice Joyce Ranta

Bernice Joyce Ranta, age 87 of L'Anse, Michigan passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Bayside Village in L'Anse.
She was born October 17, 1923 in Michigamee, MI daughter of Gerald and Arminta (Chapman) Murray. Bernice graduated from Michigamme High School in 1940. She married Reino Ranta on April 4, 1942. Bernice was devoted to her husband and her children and loved the little ones. Her family meant the world to her.
Bernice was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in L'Anse.
She is survived by her son Mark (Linda) Ranta of Green Bay; daughters, Sharon Ranta of Elgin, IL, Eugenie "Jeanie" (Asuncion "Chaun") Castaneda of Wilson, MI, Elaine (Richard) Schindler of Mineral City, OH; four brothers, Steve (Diane) Murray of Baraga, Warren (Martha) Murray of Marquette, Robert Murray of Marquette, Gerald Murray of California; sister Marie (Jim) Tuk of Georgia; sister-in-laws Mary Murray and Betty Murray both of Marquette; ten grandchildren, Janet (Steve) Rossi, Dale (Colleen) Borgen, Jenny (Matt) Rappley, Jeannette Krueger, Mary (Gil) Michaud, Sarah (Dave) Ward, Matthew Schindler, Jacob Schindler, Lucas Ranta and Holly Ranta; and 15 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Reino; and brothers, Eugene, Kenny, Louie, and Ray.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, December 28th at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Fr. John Longbucco will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
