Bertha Rantanen, age 90, of Watton, Michigan passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Bayside Village in L'Anse, MI where she has been a resident for the past 3 years.
She was born August 23, 1920 in Watton, Michigan daughter to Gust and Anna Elfbrandt. Bertha resided in Watton her entire life except for 3 years during WWII when she moved to Detroit, MI and worked for Lyon Inc.
She married Alfred Rantanen on May 3, 1938 in Ishpeming, MI. Bertha worked for Wood Development Corp in Sidnaw, MI for many years and then worked at theWatton Co-op store retiring in 1982.
Her hobbies included crocheting, crossword puzzles, and she loved to play Bingo at Bayside Village, going out to eat, and shopping.
Bertha was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Covington, was a member of the Ladies Aid, and former Sunday school teacher.
Surviving are her son Roger (Darlene) Rantanen of Watton, MI; daughters, Karen (Stanley) Hansen of Watton, MI, Cindy (Kevin) Rourk of Marquette; eight grandchildren, Todd, LeeAnn, Scott, Brad, Randy, Becky, Jason, Jim; two step grandchildren, Sean, Megan; and 13 grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Alfred in 1984; brothers, John and Arne; sisters, Elsie and Julia; and grandson Danny.
There will be private family services. Burial will be on Thursday, May 5th at 11:00 a.m. in the Covington Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
