Betty Jane (Schjoth) Saari

July 26, 1948 — August 18, 2020

Betty Jane Saari, age 72 of Baraga, MI passed away peacefully at Baraga County Memorial Hospital on August 18, 2020.

She was born July 26th, 1948 to Edward and Evelyn (Roberts) Schjoth in L'Anse, MI were she attended L'Anse School. She had lived in Arnheim, MI and then moved to Baraga, MI. Betty had been married to Earl LaFernier and then to David Saari. She had been employed at the Ojibwa Casino for ten years.

Betty enjoyed painting and watching her beloved birds with Hummingbirds being her favorite. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

She is survived by her children, Eric LaFernier of Chicago, IL, Lori LaFernier (Robert) of Baraga, MI, David (Barb) Saari of Arnheim, MI, and Chris Ann (Brandon) Lamson of Baraga, MI; brother Richard Schjoth of Baraga, MI; grandchildren, Carmin, Alexis, Kayla, Vanessa and Tyler, along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents; brothers, Edward, John and Frank Schjoth; sisters, Maryann Niemi and Shirley McEwen.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 24th at 10 a.m. at the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery with Fr. Corey Litzner officiating. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
