Bruce F. Deter, age 76 of L'Anse passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2003 at Marquette General Hospital.
He was born March 9, 1927 in Houghton, Mi son of the late Charles and Betty (Constaneau) Deter. Bruce was in the US Army during WWII. He married Helen Leek on October 29, 1966 at the former St. John's Church in L'Anse. He worked for the State of Michigan Highway Department for over 30 years, retiring in 1984. Bruce received three recognitions, for 30 years of service to the Department of Michigan Transportation in 1984, dedicated service honors for 31 years of Service & recognizes a valuable contribution to Michigan's Total Transportation Program, and by Michigan Dept. Of Transportation in recognition and appreciation for the extra effort put forth in providing the logs for the historic reconstruction of the "Menominee Welcome Center". Bruce was also a photographer for about 15 years.
He is a member the United Lutheran Church and a church council member for several years, Baraga County Historical Society, and wrote a book on the History of Baraga County. He enjoyed hunting , fishing, rock collecting, and lapidary.
Bruce was survived by his wife Helen of L'Anse; his children James (Charito) Pletcher of Buchanan, MI, Cynthia (Raymond) Maki of Watton, Clarence "Cliff" Pletcher III of San Francisco, John Pletcher of North Carolina, Cheryl (Robert) Davis of Sidnaw; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his sons Oliver Pletcher and Leland Pletcher; and an infant sister.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 10 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Rev. Margaret Grant will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service and the Baraga American Legion Post 444 will conduct a veterans service at 10:45 a.m.. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. Fellowship and a luncheon will follow the service in the Sharing Room located at the funeral home. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
