Byron Lloyd Butterfield, age 70 of Ishpeming, MI passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Mill Creek Assisted Living.
He was born March 17, 1951 in Marlette, MI son of Clarence "Ted" and Margaret (Ford) Butterfield. Byron grew up on a farm, learning how to work hard at a young age. He played football from the 7th grade through high school. Byron graduated from Marlette High School in 1969 and went on to receive an Associate degree in Forestry Management from MTU. He married the former Lorene Forcia on August 11, 1973 in L'Anse.
Byron worked at the Empire Mine for 32 years, retiring in 2016. He took pride in working hard for his wife and kids. Lorene died in 1987, leaving him to raise their three children. His children and grandchildren brought joy to his life. Byron had a sassy sense of humor, was bluntly honest, and had a quick wit. He enjoyed eating out at local restaurants to support them and had made many friendships over the years. Byron loved old country music and was an avid Detroit Lions fan. He also followed the stock market and was known for giving people stock tips.
Surviving are his children, Aaron (Jenna Luoma) of Ishpeming, Ashley (Bill) Krook of Wrightstown, WI, Whitney (Josh) Hebert of Ishpeming; brother Myron (Linda) Butterfield of Maddock, ND; grandchildren, Caden and Lorella Luoma, Koy (Makayla Monfils) Stache, Brent, Haley, Will, and Brooklyn Krock, Emilee and Evan Hebert; and great grandchild Aikley Stache.
Preceding him in death are his parents and wife Lorene Butterfield.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 4th from 2-3:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Negaunee. His funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Steven Solberg officiating. Burial will follow in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
