Carlton E. Patterson

June 11, 1932 — November 17, 2003

Carlton E. Patterson, age 71 of Pequaming passed away suddenly on Monday, Nov. 17, 2003 at his home.

He was born June 11, 1932 in Gaylord, MI son of the late Archibald and Ruth (Schlemmer) Patterson. Carlton grew up in Gaylord and graduated from Gaylord High School in 1949. He was in the US Coast Guard for four years. Carlton was with the Michigan State Police from 1956, coming to the L'Anse Post in 1968, and retiring in 1988 as Sergeant. He married the former Maria "Betty" (Perala) Patterson in 1959. They have resided in Pequaming since 1973.

He is a member of the United Lutheran Church, Ottawa Sportsman's Club, and the Masonic Lodge. Carlton enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife Maria "Betty" of Pequaming; children Michelle "Mickey" Lappi of Inglewood, FL, Daniel G. (Nancy) Lappi of Milwaukee, Dean C. (Kathy) Patterson of Green Bay, WI, Darren C. Patterson of Minneapolis, Drew R. (Tamara) Patterson of Bay City, MI; sister, Joan (Murph) Cottrell of Vanderbilt, MI; brothers James (Elaine) Patterson of Sanford, MI, Thomas (Cathy) Patterson of Sanford, MI; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren.

Carlton is preceded in death by a son David Lappi; brother Robert Patterson; and sister Patricia Patterson.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, Nov. 21 at 11:00 a.m. at United Lutheran Church in L'Anse. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Leon Linquist will officiate. Burial will be in the Pequaming Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
