Carol Ann Porter

Carol Ann Porter age 65 of Baraga passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2002 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, skilled nursing unit.
She was born August 1, 1937 in Ironwood, MI daughter to the late Clarence and Laura (Newby) Verhelst. Carol married John Porter on June 24, 1978. She taught at Baraga for 25 years, retiring in 1997. She enjoyed line dancing and craft work.
Carol was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by three brothers, Robert (Sue) Verhelst of Portland, OR, William (Suzanne) Verhelst of Riverview, MI, Edward (Lisa) Verhelst of Hastings, MN; sister Janice (Bill) Hlavecek of Texas; 3 stepsons, John (Chris) Porter of Algonac, MI, Ken Porter of East Pointe, MI, Scott (Donna) Porter of Roseville, MI; three stepdaughters, Helen McCormick of Macomb Twp., MI, Debbie Porter of East Pointe, MI, Kathy Porter of Waterford, MI; eight Step grandchildren; one step great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her husband John on October 26, 1999; sister Joan Bigari; brother Clarence Verhelst Jr.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home Visitation will be from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Rev. William Verhelst will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood, MI. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
