Clarabeth Dixon, 83, of Livonia, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2020 at Fountain Bleu Health and Rehabilitation Center (previously the Lutheran Home) in Livonia.
She was born August 2, 1936, the youngest of ten children born to Nels and Tynne (Lepola) Salo in Watton, Michigan. It wasn’t until she moved to Detroit, however, that she met fellow Yooper Bruce Dixon, a transplant from Nisula, whom she married on October 7, 1960. They settled in Redford and remained inseparable until Bruce’s death in 1988.
Clarabeth was a member of the Our Saviour Apostolic Lutheran Church in Northville. She was also an enthusiastic member of the Finnish Center in Farmington.
She had a wealth of knowledge in Finnish-American culture, antiques, and crafts of all kinds. She loved animals, especially her dog Duchess. Clare enjoyed music--U.S. country and western, Finnish traditional, and spiritual music. She was blessed with many good friends whom she loved dearly. She was a loving presence at family gatherings. Her kindness and good humor will be missed.
She is survived by two brothers, Edsel (Shirley) Salo of Watton and Russell Salo Ishpeming, cousins in the Detroit area, and nieces and nephews throughout the country.
