Clarence Melvin Huhtasaari, age 80 of Askel, MI, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2013 at Shulstad's Leisure Living in Baraga, MI.
He was born November 16, 1932 in Askel, MI son of Arne and Anna (Heikkinen) Huhtasaari. Clarence was a veteran serving in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 444 in Baraga. He was a proud member of the Otter Lake Sportsman's Club. He served as a tour guide for the Hanka Homestead for a number of years. Clarence worked on the Oar carriers as a seaman; he worked in the copper mines; and at Celotex Corporation for 20 years, retiring at age 62.
He loved to fish for Lake Trout and deer hunting, shooting numerous large bucks. He was an avid poker player and loved going to the Ojibwa Casino where he was well known.
Preceded in death are his parents Arne and Anna Huhtasaari and a sister Shirley (Paul) Kezele.
Clarence is survived by brothers Ken (Eva) Huhtasaari and Michael (Phyllis) Huhtasaari. He will be greatly missed by his friends, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Especially cousins Oscar Heikkinen and Paul Pesola.
No services will be held now per his request; but a memorial service will be held in late spring 2014. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
