Daniel J. Schultz, age 83 formerly of Baraga, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, skilled nursing unit.

Dan was born on February 4, 1919 in Sparta, MI son of the late Walter and Buelah (Lynch) Schultz. He married the former Helmi Keranen on June 5, 1942 in Berkley, MI. They lived in the Drayton Plains, MI, area until they moved to the Baraga area in 1968. Dan worked for Lindberg Construction until his retirement in 1981. He then created the Keweenative Stone Co. in Baraga. Dan and Helmi were active in the Charismatic Church group at St. Ann's Catholic Church.

He is survived by children Daniel (Beverly) Schultz II of Virginia, MN, Florence (Russell) Frick of Clarkston, Ruth (Byrd) Kramer of Chassell, Raymond Schultz of Tapiola, Carl Schultz of Battle Creek; Bonnie Maiga of Carson City, Janet (Bernard) Witbrodt of Greenville, Joyce (Thomas) Bronson of Mansfield, PA, Rita (Robert) Dillenbeck of Clarkston; brother Robert Schultz of Mancelona, MI; sister Mildred "Mary" Sabo of Deford, MI; 24 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Dan is preceded in death by his wife Helmi on March 14, 2002; brothers, Bernard, Robert, James, Fran Schultz; sisters, Gertrude Schultz and Margaret Kozelka; daughter, Nancy Stueber; and grandson, Daniel J. Schultz III.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 23 at 2:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. Fr. Greg Heikkala will officiate. Visitation will be from 12-2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Baraga County Memorial Hospital's Skilled Nursing Unit. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
