David C. Lanctot, age 75 of L'Anse passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 in Belleville, IL after a short illness.
He was born May 3, 1929 in Hancock, MI son of the late Grover and Mary (Zurcher) Lanctot. David grew up in Hancock and attended school there. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served in Korea. After the service he was employed by the Corps of Engineer on a Tug-Dredge in Superior WI for a few years. Then he was employed by UPPCO for 32 years and at the time of his retirement in 1990 David was the Station (Chief) engineer of the J. H. Warden Plant in L'Anse. He was married to the former Katherine M. Maurin on November 19, 1955 in South Range, MI.
David was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, life member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW Post 3897, American Legion Post 144. He was an avid Packer Backer and gardener and was active in the Senior Citizens Cribbage League, Baraga County Little League and helped start the Little League field in L'Anse, Baraga County Horseshoe League, Baraga County Bowling League, L'Anse Area Schools Booster Club, L'Anse Hockey Association, and Brew Master at the Menge Coffee Clutch. After he retired he was employed at Jacobson Funeral Home and Range Auto. David and his wife have been spending their winters in McAllen, Texas since his retirement.
Surviving is his wife Katherine of L'Anse; sons, David (Dottie) of Belleville, IL, Gerard (Cynthia) of Las Vegas, NV, Michael (Judy) of Minot, ND (Kunsan AFB Korea); daughter, Katherine Lanctot of Marquette; brother, Joseph (Peg) Lanctot of Superior, WI; sister, Rita Wise of Lansing, MI; seven grandchildren, David, Jennifer, Matthew, Jason, Melissa, Tory, and Levi; one great grandchild; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding him in death are his brothers Jay & Bud.
Pallbearers will be Pete Magaraggia, Bill Menge, Tom Menge, Jerry Sirard, Bill Rosseau, and Biddle Almli.
The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 5th at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church with Fr. George Maki officiating. Visitations will be held on Wednesday, May 4th from 6-8:00 p.m. and Thursday, from 10-11:00 am both at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. The Baraga County Area Veterans will conduct military rites at 7:00 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus have a Rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock. A luncheon and fellowship will follow the funeral mass in the church fellowship hall. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
