David John Paquet, age 52 of L'Anse, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2008 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L'Anse as a result of an accident.
He was born February 13, 1956 in L'Anse, MI son of the late Mylo and Elsie (Ellis) Paquet. He graduated from L'Anse High School in 1974. David worked for Cleveland Cliffs for 30 years, first at the Republic Mine and then the Empire Mine, retiring in 2004. He was a member of the Otter Lake Sportsman's Club, the UP Muzzle Loaders Association and a life member of the NRA.
David and Bill were not only brothers, they were best friends. Their day would typically begin at the Nite Owl with a rendezvous for morning coffee and if either Bill or David needed help that day, the other would be there to lend a helping hand, making firewood, fixing a piece of broken equipment or working on some project.
David loved roughing it. His idea of a perfect time was to load his camping gear on his 6 wheeler and spend up to a month at a time at some remote lake or camp living off what he could catch or hunt. David very much enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, competitive shooting and he loved his guns.
Surviving are his brothers Oliver Paquet of L'Anse and William Paquet of Aura; his very special friend Michelle Auge of Baraga, niece Shelly Jeter (Quincy) of South Range and nephews, Aaron Paquet, Adam Paquet and Andrew (Jessica) Paquet all of L'Anse. David is also survived by Aunts Martha Harju of L'Anse, Laila Poirier of Marquette and Uncle Sulo Ellis of L'Anse as well as many cousins.
David was preceded in death by his Mother, Elsie Paquet in 1977 and his Father, Mylo Paquet in 2006.
