Dennis James Myllyla

Dennis James Myllyla, age 64 of Arnheim, MI passed away on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital. He was born October 10, 1951 in Hancock, MI son of Wesley and Lempi (Aho) Myllyla. Dennis graduated from Baraga High School in 1969 and then attended Northern Michigan University for 2 ½ years before returning to the family farm. He worked on the farm along with driving bus for Baraga schools and Copper Country Intermediate School District, retiring in June of 2014. He attended Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie, was a member of L’Anse Golf Club where he enjoyed to golf. He coached football for Baraga and youth hockey for Pelkie Dairymen. Dennis played fast and slow pitch softball, enjoyed hunting, lake trout fishing, and wildlife. He was also a member of Otter Lake Sportsman Club, Baraga Lions Club, U.P. Whitetails Association, Green Timber Tree Farm Group, and Michigan Sport Sages where he was the U.P. representative and current state President. Surviving are his brother Kenneth (Rose) Myllyla of Escanaba; sisters Florence (Elmer “Bud”) Bessonen of Escanaba; June Schaefer of Arnheim; sister-in-law Nancy Myllyla of Arnheim; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding him in death are his parents and brother Melvin Myllyla. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 10th from 11-1:00 p.m. at Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie. His funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. John Autio officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in the Askel Cemetery.
