Donald Kenneth Boomer, age 76 of L'Anse, MI passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at his home.
He was born February 13, 1937 in Pontiac, MI to Charles and Dorothy (Kent) Boomer. Donald grew up in Pontiac, MI and went into the US Marines from 1955-58. He married the former Fay Louise Dantes on May 13, 1960 in Detroit, MI. They moved to Herman after they were married and he worked for L'Anse Twp. Schools as head custodian and bus driver for over 20 years; retiring in 1996.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, model airplanes, flower gardening, cutting wood, making wooden lawn decorations, and traveling. He loved his grand kids and dogs.
Surviving are his wife Fay Boomer of L'Anse; daughters, Debbie (Jeff) Summers of Herman, MI, Lenora Veker of Hancock, MI; grandchildren, Derek (Denise) Makela of Covington, MI, Jay Makela of Herman, Jessica Makela of Herman, Joseph Boomer of Laurium, MI, Ashley Boomer of Hancock; great grandchildren, Michael, Stella, Alex, Angelina, Laura, Wynter; sisters, Carole Clare of Ypsilanti, MI, Margaret (Don) Morrissey of Clarkston, MI, Linda (James) Deaton of Mena, AR; brother-in-law Allan (Rebecca) Dantes of South Charleston, WV; sister-in-laws, Charlotte Boomer of Escondido, CA, Ann Makila of Westland, MI, Beatrice Dantes of Milford, MI; numerous nieces and nephews..
Preceding him in death are his parents; son Charles Boomer; brother Bob Boomer; sister Judy Teubner; brother-in-laws, Bert, and Charles D. Dantes, and Ed Makila.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 25th at 2:00 p.m. at L'Anse Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Bishop officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 at the church. A luncheon and fellowship will follow in the church hall. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
