Donald Tober, 72, of Baraga, died Sunday morning, August 28, 2005, at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 1, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late Edward and Martha (Wiese) Tober. On September 10, 1955 he married the former Aloys Gaertner in Parma, Ohio.
Donald was an army veteran having served in Germany during the Korean Conflict.
He spent all of his working years in the construction industry, which he began immediately following high school. From 1975 to 1986 he worked in Alaska on the creation of the Alaskan Pipeline.
Donald was an active member of the Ottawa Sportsman's Club and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, flying, for a time held a pilots license and owned a small airplane. He once flew, with a friend, in a small two-seat airplane from Alaska to the Baraga Airport. Donald will be remembered by his family as a person who was always available to help his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Aloys Tober of Baraga; 7 children, Valois Miron of Wyoming, Chrysan (Bryan) Carlson of Michigamme, MI, Eric Tober of California, Becky (Peter) Massie of Baraga, Siena Tober of Baraga, Guy (Carmen) Tober of Laurium, MI and Micah (Mary) Tober of Alston; 11 grandchildren; and a brother, Ted Tober of Mohawk, MI. Besides his parents, a grandson, Brian and sister, Leonata preceded him in death.
There will be no services at this time.
