Dorothy J. Bennett, age 81 of L'Anse, MI passed away on Monday, March 21, 2011 at Bayside Village in L'Anse where she had been a resident for the past 2 years.
She was born on July 1, 1929 in St. Johns, Michigan daughter to the late Dewey and Frances (Stearns) Charter. Dorothy attended school in St. Johns and married Robert E. Bennett on November 15, 1945 in St Johns. They moved to Battle Creek, MI and she worked for Post Cereal for 15 years. Dorothy later went to Beauty School and owned and operated My Ladies Beauty Salon and then Dot's Beauty Salon in Battle Creek, MI. In 1992 they moved to L'Anse.
Dorothy enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, camping, flowers and gardening, playing Bingo, gambling and loved spending time with her grandkids. She was a member of American Legion Post 444 Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband Robert E. Bennett of L'Anse; sons, Robert L. (Dorothy) Bennett of Baldwin, MI, James D. (Debra) Bennett of Baraga; sister Jennie (Jim) Lichtey of Battle Creek, MI; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents and a brother Devern Charter.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday, March 28th at 11:00 AM at the Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Rev. Judy Mattson will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. A luncheon and fellowship will follow at the Baraga American Legion Post 444.
