Dorothy E. Dawson

Dorothy E. Dawson, age 93 of L'Anse passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2004 at her home with her family at her side.

She was born September 12, 1910 in L'Anse daughter of the late Frank and Caroline (Bentzen) Menard. Dorothy was a graduate of L'Anse High School and St. Lukes School of Nursing in Marquette. She was a registered nurse and worked at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste Marie, also at St. Lukes Hospital in Marquette. She also worked 31 years for Dr. H. J. Winkler in L'Anse. She was a member of St. Lukes Alumni and the Michigan Nurses Association. On December 16, 1939 she married Orval L. Dawson in St. Ignace, MI. She enjoyed flower gardening and fishing.

Dorothy is survived by one son, Jack (Edith) Dawson of L'Anse; two daughters, Mary Jean (Edward) Brennan of Marquette, Dorothy (Curtis) Rehn of Gwinn; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; one great great granddaughter; two step grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren; 5 nieces; one nephew.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Orval; son Gary; three sisters, Martha Anderson, Marguerite Menard, Marcella Lucas; one brother Charles Menard; one grand daughter Jean Kantola.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Visitations will be Monday from 6-8:00 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Rev. Larry Saunders will officiate. Burial will take place in the spring in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. Following the funeral service fellowship and luncheon will be held in the Sharing Room at the funeral home. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
