Doug "Shiek" E LeClaire

December 30, 1954 — March 20, 2016

Doug "Shiek" E. LeClaire, age 61 passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016 in Baraga, MI. He was born December 30, 1954 in Hancock, MI son of Melford and Rita (Miron) LeClaire. Doug graduated from Baraga High School in 1973. He played sports, and still holds the track record at BHS for the two mile. He graduated from MTU in 1975, with a degree in Forestry. He was a very hard working, loyal employee to many local manufacturing and welding companies in Baraga. Baraga was his home town and he represented his community. He could never figure out why anyone would want to leave Baraga County. Doug served as a councilman for the Village of Baraga for 16 years. He loved fishing, and was very good at it. Doug loved the outdoors, watching birds, taking his daily ride in the Baraga Plains, and stopping to visit his friends. He knew where the best blueberry patches were, and when the Sandhill cranes arrived in the rye fields. Doug was a quiet, curious, and humble man. He knew so many people and touched every one of them in some way. Surviving are his sisters, Mary Glover of Palmdale, CA, Joanne LeClaire of Baraga, Carol Hamacher and Lorraine Maki of L’Anse; brothers Leonard and Paul of Baraga; sister-in-law Carol LeClaire of L’Anse; brothers-in-law Richard Hiltunen and Lance Heikkinen of Baraga; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends. Doug was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Joe, James and Peter; sisters, Charlene Hiltunen and Kathryn Heikkinen; brothers-in-law Stewart Hamacher, Raymond Maki, and Gary Glover. Doug will be remembered every time we see the first birds and flowers in the springtime, the campfires in summer, the woods rides in the fall, and the ice shacks in the winter. We will forever miss him. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 23rd from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Corey Litzner officiating. A luncheon and fellowship will follow in The Sharing Room at Jacobson Funeral Home. Burial will be on Saturday, April 23rd at 1:00 p.m. in the Baraga Cemetery.
