Edith Agnes Almli, 93, of L'Anse, passed away Friday evening, October 28, 2005 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

She was born February 1, 1912, in L'Anse, a daughter of the late Charles and Kristina (Obsen) Jacobsen and has been a lifelong area resident. Edith was a 1930 L'Anse High School graduate and the Valedictorian of her class. On November 10, 1936 she married Albert "Bert" Almli in Iron River, MI and he preceded her in death in 1988.

Edith worked for many years in the "family business", The Specialty Store in L'Anse. She was a member of United Lutheran Church and the Priscilla Circle. Edith enjoyed making a home for her family and volunteering at the church.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Ruth Jacobsen of Chicago, IL and Mary Taylor and her partner, Maureen Doneathy of Orillia, Ontario; 4 grandchildren, Gretchen Caspary of Chicago, IL, Kris Brooks of Orillia, Ontario, Ellis "Rick" (Pat) Caspary of Chicago and Jennifer (Brian) Woodcock of Mississauga, Ontario; 5 great-grandchildren, David, Tyler and Beth Brooks, Jessica and Joshua Woodcock; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, James, Anna, Meta, Carl, Jenny, Ella, William and infant brother, Arthur.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 31, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the United Lutheran Church with Rev. Scott Williams officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at 10 a.m. in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider Baraga County Memorial Hospital and United Lutheran Church.
