Edward Joseph Brinkman, age 82 of L’Anse, MI passed away suddenly on Friday, May 3, 2019 at his home.
He was born June 26, 1936 in Lake Linden, MI, son of Edward and Frances (Lamuth) Brinkman.
Ed graduated from Lake Linden High School in 1954. He served his country in the US Navy from 1954-56, then continued in the Naval Reserve. Ed received his bachelor’s degree from Northern Michigan University in January of 1963, continued on to receive his master’s degree in Education and was a Master Teacher. Ed married Ellen Jean Maltby on November 22, 1958 in Lake Linden. From 1963-95, Ed taught Industrial Art at L’Anse High School.
Ed was a member of United Lutheran Church, American Legion in Lake Linden and former member of the Lake Superior Beagle Club. In the early 1970s, Ed ran a fishing charter, The Lady Ellen. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, kayaking, being outdoors, living in the U.P. and having his morning coffee at Indian Country Sports with his buddies.
Surviving are his wife Ellen Jean Brinkman of L’Anse; children, Lois Anne Brinkman of Mason, MI, Sarah Ellen (Dony) Ison of L’Anse, Edward Tamas (Loretta) Brinkman of Cedar Springs, MI; brothers, Milton (Gale) Brinkman of Escanaba, Anthony “Tony” (Maureen) Brinkman of Bristol, IN, Frank (Karen) Brinkman of Bakersfield, CA; grandchildren, Alexis Victoria Malhado and Delaney Elizabeth Malhado; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 7th at 11:00 a.m. at United Lutheran Church with Rev. John Ansell officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jacobson Funeral Home.
