Edward (Ned) Moberg, age 86 of Baraga, MI passed away on Friday, May 2, 2014 at Marquette General Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

He was born on July 7, 1927 in Baraga son of Olive (Tollefson) and Edward Moberg. Ed was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Baraga. He attended Baraga High School and Soumi College, playing basketball for both of their teams. Ed served in the US Navy during WWII on the aircraft carrier Bellawood in the Pacific. Upon return he joined the National Guard. Settling in Baraga, Ed worked as a Controller of the Baraga County Road Commission for 37 years, serving as Secretary of the UP Road Commission Clerk’s Association. Ed also was a Director of the Keweenaw Financial Corporation, a 20 year member of the Baraga Area School Board of Education as Secretary, served on the Baraga Village Council, and with Baraga Housing Commission. Ed was also a member of the American Legion Post 444, the L’Anse Masonic Lodge,  Maplewood Chapter #511 Order of Eastern Star and treasure for many years, and the Baraga Kiwanis Club.

Ed married Toini Mustonen on September 1, 1951. Together they built a home and family in Baraga, owning the A & W Drive In restaurant for 10 years. “Ned” was very proud of his family, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Ed enjoyed nothing more than seeing the achievements his family made, and loved when everyone was together. His favorite pastimes included going to camp, feeding the deer and the fish, and as a dedicated shopper, was always game to find a good bargain. Ed was a proud Veteran and honored to participate in the 2012 UP Honor Flight to Washington, DC.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Toini; daughter Lynne (Steve) Miettinen of Negaunee; son Edward III of Sheboygan Falls, WI; 8 grandchildren, Jason (Rachel) Eagle, Amanda (Daniel) Huyck, Stacey Eagle, Valerie (Tim) Fetting, Clarke, Callie, Easton and Drake Moberg, as well as 6 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Olive and Edward, brother Hubert, and daughter Joanne (Moberg) Eagle.

His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 6 th at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Baraga. Visitation will be from 10-12:00 p.m. at the church. Rev. Julie Belew will officiate. A luncheon will follow the funeral in the church hall. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery with the Baraga County Area Veteran’s conducting military rites under the direction of the American Legion Post 444.

Pallbearers will be Steve Miettinen, Rodney Eagle, Tim Fetting, Kevin Toutant, Roger Peterson, and Daniel Huyck. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L’Anse is assisting the family.
