Edward T. Taipalus
July 14, 1931 — May 8, 2004
Edward T. Taipalus, age 72 of L'Anse passed away on Saturday, May 08, 2004 at Bayside Village in L'Anse where he has been a resident since September.
He was born July 14, 1931 in Detroit, MI son of the late William and Mamie (Waisanen) Taipalus. Edward graduated from L'Anse High School in 1949. He was in the US Air Force form 1952-56 during the Korean Conflict. One August 12, 1961 he married Joyce Miilu in L'Anse. Edward worked as a foreman for Celotex for over 30 years, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching sports. Edward was a member of the United Lutheran Church, Baragaland Senior Citizens, and the VFW Post 3897.
Edward is survived by his wife, Joyce of L'Anse; son Alan Taipalus of L'Anse; daughters, Carol (Erik) Mattox of Aura, Linda Taipalus of Baraga; brother, William Taipalus of Lincoln Park, MI; sisters, Joyce Nelson of Escanaba, Gloria (Larry) Klerkx of Redford, MI, Joan (Jay) Kotcher of Sterling Heights, MI; mother-in-law, Martha Miilu of L'Anse; sister-in-laws, Shirley Taipalus of Livonia, MI, Judy (Ed) Testen of L'Anse, brother-in-law, Ronald (Cassie) Miilu of Mass City, MI; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 12 from 6-8:00 pm at the Jacobson Funeral Home. The Baraga County Veterans Association will conduct Military Rites at 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Leon Linquist will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. Luncheon and fellowship will follow at the Eagle's. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
