Einar William Kemppainen, age 70 of Covington, Michigan passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L'Anse, Michigan.
Einar was born November 6, 1940 in Covington, Michigan son of the late Einar John and Gertrude Mirian (Tikkanen) Kemppainen. He graduated from Negaunee High School in 1959. From September 1961-64 Einar was in the US Army. He resided in Covington since 1969 and worked as a mechanic for CCI in Ishpeming for 30 years, retiring in 1995.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and picking berries. He enjoyed working on equipment and vehicles for people and taking care of family.
Einar was a life member of the VFW Post 8945 and the Covington Historical Society.
Surviving is his girlfriend of over 20 years, Judy Beauprey of Pelkie and her children, Laurie (Alden) Ahola of Watton, Karl Hiltunen of Watton, Jolene (Greg) Aleo of Herman, and Richard Beauprey of Pelkie; 11 grandchildren whom known him as "Papa"; brother-in-law Robert Michell of Ishpeming; and two nephews, Michael Michell and Brian Michell both of Ishpeming.
Preceding him in death are his parents; brother David Kemppainen; and sister Beatrice Michell.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 20th at 11:00 am at the Covington Cemetery. The Baraga County Area Veterans will conduct military rites and Rev. Mark Reinsch will officiate committal prayers. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
