Eleanor E. Johnson, age 87 of L'Anse, MI passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 31, 1922 in Pelkie, MI daughter to Robert and Amanda (Haara) Ranta. Eleanor married Undo Johnson on August 24, 1940; he preceded her in death on July 12, 1995. She lived in L'Anse her entire life until moving into Shulstad's Leisure Living in Baraga where Eleanor resided for the past 3 years. For over 30 years she worked as a nurse's aide at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1979; and as a rural route mail carrier for the US Postal Service.
Eleanor was a member of United Lutheran Church in L'Anse, WELCA, charter member of the Eagles Aerie #2287, VFW Post 3897 Auxiliary, and Baragaland Senior Citizens. She enjoyed crocheting and traveling.
Surviving are her son Roger (Nancy) Johnson of Ft. Pierce, FL; daughter Dianne Taylor of Okeechobee, FL; step brother Donald Salo; step sisters, Jenny Janda, and Ellen Maki; grandchildren, Scott Lloyd, Steven Lloyd, Debra Knox, Jay Johnson, and Amber Awe; 15 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding her in death are her father Robert Ranta; her mother and step father Amanda and George Salo; husband Undo; brothers, Donald and Leonard Ranta; and grandson Sean Knox.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 6th at 1:00 pm at the United Lutheran Church in L'Anse. Visitation will be from 11-1:00 pm at the church. Rev. Scott Williams will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
