Eleanor Partanen

March 27, 1912 — March 3, 2001

Eleanor Partanen, age 88, formerly of L'Anse, passed away on Saturday, March 3, 2001 at Verdugo Vista Nursing Home in LaCrescenta, CA.

She was born March 27, 1912 in Aberdeen, Washington, daughter to the late Leonard and Greta (Niemi) Jukkala. She grew up in L'Anse and graduated from L'Anse High School. She was married to Olavi Hendrickson from 1946 until 1962. They resided in Miami, Florida where Eleanor worked at Burdines Department Store. Eleanor moved to Michigan in 1964, and married George Partanen on August 31, 1965 in L'Anse. They resided in Arizona from 1969, at which time they spent summers in L'Anse, then she moved to California in 1997. She was a member of the Finnish American Club in Tucson, Arizona.

Eleanor was survived by a son Leonard (Theresa) Hendrickson of LaCanada, CA, daughter Kathryn Olszewski of Boise, Idaho, two brothers Matt (Martha) Jukkala of Alantic Mine, Arvo (Jean) Jukkala of Gaylord, MI, three grandchildren Dana and Erica Hendrickson, Jan Voakes, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She also leaves the George Partanen's family, which she always felt close to.

She is preceded in death by her husband George on May 31, 1994, brothers Leonard, Toivo, John, Jacob Jukkala, sister Norma Barnes, and grandson Gary Voakes.

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 8, from 5-8 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home, and Friday from 10-11 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church. The Funeral service will be on Friday, March 9, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church. Rev. Margaret Grant will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery in the spring. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
