Eleanora Metz, 86, of L'Anse, died Thursday morning, June 7, 2007, at Bayside Village Nursing Center in L'Anse.

She was born September 27, 1920, in Phelps, Wisconsin, a daughter of the late George and Anna (Anderson) Soli. She attended Pequaming High School and graduated in 1937.

Following graduation, Eleanora moved to Detroit where she worked for Cadillac and met her future husband, Ira Metz. The couple was married in the Salem Norwegian Lutheran Church in Detroit in 1943. They relocated to L'Anse in 1945.

Eleanora was employed for 20 years at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, working in the kitchen. She retired on August 1, 1984.

She was a member of United Lutheran Church and enjoyed crocheting and gardening.

She is survived by a daughter, Loretta (Anthony) Golden of L'Anse; son, Larry (Jo) Metz of Sierra Vista, AZ; 4 grandchildren, Carol Carlson of Peducka, KY, Janet Deziel of Baraga, Pamela Metz of Sierra Vista, AZ and James Metz of Sierra Vista; 2 great-grandchildren, Jessica Deziel and Myranda Deziel; sister, Margaret Tollefson of Florence, WI; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ira; brother, Rev. John Soli; and sisters, Gundrun and Ellen.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Jacobson Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 11, 2007 at 11 a.m. in the United Lutheran Church with Rev. Scott Williams officiating. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
