Eli Jacob Laturi

April 17, 1921 — July 30, 2004

Eli Jacob Laturi, age 83 of Watton passed away on Friday, July 30, 2004 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born April 17, 1921 in Watton, Michigan son of the late Matti and Ida (Huhtala) Laturi. Eli attended Opal school in Watton. He served in the US Army during WWII. Eli married the former Ida Wainio on February 5, 1949 in Detroit. Eli did woods work for various loggers over the years.

Eli was a member of the Watton Apostolic Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 144 in L'Anse. He enjoyed making firewood, and Finnish and country music.

He was a wonderful father and grandfather. Surviving are his children, David Laturi of Watton, Barbara (Kenneth) Kytola of Watton, Rita (Dan) Coleman of L'Anse; sisters, Aili Serresseque of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Julia Maki of L'Anse; five grandchildren, Yvonne, Douglas, Shannon, Rebbeca, Joshua; nine great grandchildren, Jamie, Kassandra, Aidan, Garrett, Mason, Jessica, Amanda, Isaak, and Isaiah.

Preceded him in death is his wife Ida; brothers Toivo, Arvid, Arne, Hemmi, Rufus Laturi; sisters, Tyyne Besonen, Laina Maki; and grandson Kevin.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 2, at 1:00 pm at the Watton Apostolic Lutheran Church. Pastor Ken Storm will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Covington Cemetery. The Baraga County Veterans will conduct graveside military rites under the direction of the American Legion Post 444. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
