Ellen Sibilsky

Ellen A. Sibilsky, age 87 of Baraga, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2002 at the Bluffs Senior Living.

She was born January 14, 1915, a daughter to the late John and Alina Taipale who immigrated from Finland. Ellen grew up in Twin Lakes and attended Winona School. She married Frederick Sibilsky, her husband of 65 years. They worked at Twin Lakes County Park for nine years, where she managed the concession stand. They moved to Hurontown in 1951 and lived there for 10 years, then moving to L'Anse and later to a farm in Tapiola. They resided in Baraga for the past 10 years, before moving to the Bluffs in Houghton five months ago.

Ellen enjoyed craft work, gardening, baking, reading, and berry picking. She related many tales of keeping up with her brothers challenges, such as skiing off the barn roof.

She is survived by two daughters, Frederica (Jim) Taddeucci of Houghton and Diana (Duane) Lyon of Starkville, MS, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ellen is preceded in death by her husband Frederick on March 12, 2000, three brothers Walter, Edwin, and Martin Taipale, and two sisters Hilja Johnson and Jennie Kemp.

At Ellen's request there will be no funeral service. Memorial may be made to the L'Anse Office of Superior Home Nursing, a division of the Western U.P. District Health Dept., 303 Baraga Ave., L'Anse, MI 49946, Keweenaw Home Nursing & Hospice, 311 Sixth St., Calumet, MI 49913, or Baragaland Senior Citizens, 6 Main St., L'Anse, MI 49946.

The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
