Elma Marie Wuori

August 2, 1914 — July 22, 2005

Elma Marie Wuori, 90, of L'Anse, formerly of Elo, Michigan, died Friday evening at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

She was born August 2, 1914, in Pequaming, a daughter of the late Jacob and Hilma (Honkakoski) Kriikku and has been a lifelong area resident. Elma was a Chassell High School graduate. She married William Wuori in 1933 and he preceded her in death in 1987.

Elma worked for several years writing news articles for the Daily Mining Gazette and also wrote articles for the L'Anse Sentinel.

She was a member of Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie and the Tapiola Senior Citizens. In her spare time, she enjoyed making rag rugs.

She is survived by a son, Robert Wuori of Hancock; 6 grandchildren, Bill Wuori of Nevada, Fred (Lori) Wuori of Hancock, John (Deana) Wuori of Hancock, Brenda (John) McCary of Millington, MI, Mike Toms of Millington; and Steve (Mona) Toms of Florida; sister, Eileen Oger of Alston; son-in-law, Harry (Dottie) Toms of Tawas City, MI; several great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruth, infant daughter, Nancy, 2 brothers, 1 half-sister and 2 half-brothers and a daughter-in-law, Marge.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at 11 a.m. in Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie with Rev. Peter Gundersen officiating. Visitation will be held in the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Elo Cemetery.
