Elsie M. Kerttu

Elsie M. Kerttu, age 91 of Arnheim passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001 at Portage Health System in Hancock.
She was born September 11, 1909 in Houghton, MI, daughter of Christian and Hilja (Harju) Heikkinen. Elsie was married to William Nettie and he preceded her in death. On December 26, 1950, she married Carl Kerttu in Hancock. They owned and operated the Kerttu Grocery in Arnheim.
Elsie is a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell, and the Doelle Senior Citizens. She enjoyed baking, and gardening.
She is survived by two sisters, Martha Kaskey, Eva Kerttu both of Arnheim, one brother Al (Amelia) Heikkinen of Milwaukee, numerous nieces and nephews.
Elsie is preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl Kerttu in 1976, brothers Edward and Ernest Heikkinen, and a sister Irene Lakso.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 8, at 11:00 a.m. at Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Rev. Ted Koehl will officiate. Burial will be in the Pelkie Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is in charge of arrangements.
