Elsie A. Powers

Elsie A. Powers, age 95 of L'Anse, MI passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
She was born on May 18, 1917 in Merrill, WI, daughter to William and Hattie (Reinke) Prosser. Elsie graduated from Merrill High School. She married James Powers on September 30, 1938 in Dubuque, Iowa and they resided in DeWitt, MI for 30 years before moving to L'Anse in 2000.
Elsie worked for Handy Crafters vocational rehab thru the State of Michigan for 15 years. She enjoyed reading, outdoor activities, crocheting, knitting, art, landscaping, floral arranging, and loved to dance and sing.
Surviving are her children, Steve (Ruth) Powers of DeWitt, MI and Kathleen (Michael) Green of L'Anse; sisters, Beulah Erickson, June Price, Vivian Albright, William (Betty Jane) Prosser, and Ruth Martin; grandchildren, Michael (Becky) Powers, Russell Powers, Mark (Kitty) Powers, James (Amy) Green; Eight great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband James; children, Jerome Powers and Patricia Powers; sisters, Nathalie Borchardt, Rose Prosser, Erna Hustin; brother Shelden Ney; and niece Phyllis Polasek.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at the L'Anse Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry Bishop officiating. A time of fellowship and a luncheon will follow the service in the church hall. Elsie will be buried next to her husband in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing, MI. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
