Ernest Iver Heikkinen

February 9, 1916 — November 30, 2008

Ernest I. Heikkinen, age 92, of Alston passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Bayside Village in L'Anse.

Ernest was born February 9, 1916 in Corbintown, Michigan son of Edward and Hilma (Salminen) Heikkinen. He attended school in Alston. He was a veteran serving in the US Navy during WWII. Ernest married Alice Hofman on September 13, 1940 in Maryland They resided in Brooklyn and moved to Detroit in 1952. He worked for Chrysler for 25 years; upon retirement they moved to Alston.

Ernest is a member of the L'Anse United Methodist Church; the Masonic Lodge 547 F & AM in L'Anse after received his 32nd Degree Mason Scottish Rite of the Detroit Area. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his sons Martin (Darlene) Heikkinen of Alston, Doug (Lori) Heikkinen of White Lake, MI; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Preceded in death are his wife Alice; brothers Edwin and Calvin Heikkinen.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 3rd from 6-7 p.m. at the L'Anse United Methodist Church. The Masons will conduct at service at 7 p.m. immediately following will be the funeral service officiated by Rev. John Henry. Burial will take place in the White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, MI on Monday Dec. 8th at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers non-perishable food items may be brought to the church or donated to St. Vincent De Paul or your local food bank in his memory. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is in charge of arrangements.
