Ero "Bill" Kultala, age 83 of Covington Rest Home passed away on Friday, October 16, 2009 at Marquette General Hospital.
He was born March 21, 1926 in Baltic, Michigan son of Franz "Eli" and Maria (Somero) Kultala. Bill was raised in Pelkie and graduated from Pelkie High School. He served our country in the US Army Air Corp from 1944-46 during WWII. He married the former Jean Leonard on April 12, 1947 in Detroit, MI. The resided in Gross Pointe and later St. Clair Shores most of their life. Bill worked for Chrysler as a mechanic for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He moved up to the Bluffs in Houghton in 2008 and then to the Covington Rest Home.
He was a Life member of the VFW Post #3323 in Westland, MI. Bill was a die hard American and loved being a veteran.
Surviving are his son Roy Kultala of St. Clair Shores, MI; daughters Janis (Henry Spolnicki) Kultala-Spolnicki of Gambrills, Maryland, Joann (Robert) Agresta of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Judy (Manuel) Iglesias of St. Clair, MI; brother Ray (Winifred) Kultala of Phoenix, AZ; 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren;numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents; wife Jean Kultala on Sept. 11, 1998; son Roger Kultala in 1970; brother Frank Kultala; sisters, Anne Muckenfuss, Toine "Betty" Pelto, Helga Edelen, and Aileen Schwalm.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 21st at 12 noon at the Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. John Autio will officiate. Burial will be in the Pelkie Cemetery. The Baraga County Area Veterans will conduct military rites at the graveside under the direction of the American Legion Post #444 of Baraga. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is in charge of arrangements.
