Esther I. Pelkola, age 90 life long resident of Trout Creek, MI passed away on Monday, February 28, 2005 at the Ontonagon Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit.

She was born March 10, 1914 in Trout Creek, MI daughter to the late John and Hilda (Anderson) Salonen. Esther graduated from Trout Creek High School. She married George E. Pelkola on January 14, 1940. Esther was an active church member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Trout Creek. As a homemaker Esther loved baking, sewing, and caring for her family. She enjoyed camping, gardening, berry picking, and bird watching. She loved animals, and especially her dogs.

Surviving are her children, John (Joni) Pelkola of Trout Creek, George (Sharon) Pelkola of Marquette, MI, Kenneth (Melanie) Pelkola of Trout Creek, Carolyn (Robert) Hietamaki of Gwinn, MI; seven grandchildren, Theresa (Darrin) Viitala of Gwinn, MI, Christopher (Linda) Pelkola of Champion, MI, Paula Rechner of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Kristi Pelkola of Tampa, FL, Robert (Rebecca) Pelkola of Lake Tahoe, NV, Melissa (Peter) Copenhaver of Germfask, MI, James Pelkola of Chassell, MI; seven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her husband George in 1987; brothers Ernest and Robert Salonen; sisters, Viola Ruutila and Ruth Karjala.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 3 at 2:00 PM at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Trout Creek. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Leon Linquist will officiate. Burial will take place in the spring in the Trout Creek Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
