Eva S. Kerttu
January 20, 1917 — September 20, 2003
Eva Sophia Kerttu, age 86 formerly of Arnheim passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2003 at Bayside Village in L'Anse.
She was born January 20, 1917 in Baraga daughter to the late Christian and Hilja (Harju) Heikkinen. Eva graduated from Baraga High School in 1935. Prior to marrying Elmer Kerttu in 1944 and moving to Arnheim, she was employed in Chicago and Detroit.. Eva worked for 10 years as a nurses aide at Winklers Nursing Home, then for Houghton County Medical Care Facility, retiring from there in 1979. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy and Faye Kerttu of Dearborn, MI; son, Michael (Joan) Kerttu of DeSmet, ID; one sister, Martha Kaskey of Baraga; one brother, Al (Amelia) Heikkinen of Milwaukee; and one grandson, Carl Kerttu of DeSmet, ID; several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Elmer in 1961; brothers, Edward and Ernest Heikkinen; sisters, Irene Lakso and Elsie Kerttu.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at 2:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Rev. Ted Koehl will officiate. Burial will be in Atlantic Mine Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
