Eva Ingrid Kostamo, 83, formerly of Pelkie, Michigan, died Friday evening, December 8, 2006, in the presence of her family, at Marquette General Hospital.
She was born September 24, 1923, in Aura, Michigan, a daughter of the late Andrew and Katherine "Kaisa" (Holoppa) Tolonen. Following high school Eva attended NYA School in Traverse City, MI. She then moved to Chicago, IL and worked in a factory for the Rockola Company, manufacturing Juke Box parts and gun parts for the WWII effort. Later Eva worked as an Avon Lady for 26 years.
On February 2, 1951 she married Carl M. Kostamo and he preceded her in death on February 22, 1981.
Eva enjoyed following the Chicago Cubs and Detroit Tigers and dining out. She was also interested in weather, reading newspapers, Finnish polkas and enjoyed the Aura Jamboree. She was particularly a fan of the Oulu Hotshots.
Eva is survived by 3 sons, Calvin (Janet Raymond) Kostamo of Pelkie, Wayne (Mary) Kostamo of Pelkie and Steve Kostamo of Pelkie; a daughter, Karen Kostamo of Ann Arbor, MI; a grandson, Wayne David Kostamo and a great-grandchild, Shane Kostamo; sister, Verna Hume of Schaumberg, IL; and nieces and a nephew; and a special thank you to a niece, Leona Rowe. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Lempi Gustafson, Gertrude Maki, Elizabeth Keskimaki and Irene Keranen and 2 brothers, Eli Tolonen and Charles Tolonen.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 11, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Ronald Libey officiating. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the service.
