Evelyn Marie Corgan

Evelyn Marie Corgan, 84, of Skanee, died peacefully Thursday morning, March 30, 2017, in Florence, Wisconsin.
She was born December 30, 1932 in Herman, Michigan, a daughter of the late Eino J. and Sadie S. (Keranen) Koski. She was raised in Herman and L'Anse and was a 1950 graduate of L’Anse High School.
Evelyn moved to the Detroit area and worked for the phone company where she married John H. Corgan on February 3, 1951.
She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University NW while raising her six children. She then went on to earn a Master’s degree from Northern Michigan University.
Evelyn worked for 23 years as an elementary school teacher for the Hobart Public Schools in Hobart, Indiana retiring in 1992 and returning to the UP.
She was a member of the Indiana Teacher’s Association, Indiana Reading Association, and Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member of the Ladies of Kaleva, Zion Lutheran Church, the church women’s group and the Arvon Historical Society. She was proud of her Finnish and Upper Michigan heritage, along with her career as an educator. She enjoyed playing bridge, pinochle, cribbage, sewing, knitting, and quilting.
Evelyn is survived by her sons; John P. (Marilú) Corgan, Thomas (Lynn) Corgan and Timothy (Chris) Corgan; daughters; Barbara (Allen) Clishe, Christine (Mike) Prost and Beth (Mark) Porth; grandchildren; Gayle (Travis) Lindenberg, Joel (Jami) Clishe, Jackie (Eric) Lamb, John and Michelle Prost, Christopher, Jennifer, Monica, James and Kevin Corgan, Amy & Ben Porth, Will and Ryan Corgan; great-grandchildren; Connor and Reid Lindenberg, Grace, Sarah and Isaac Clishe and Emily and Jillian Lamb; siblings; Donald (Kathy) Koski, George W. Falk, Irene (John) Fisher and Darlene (Bob) Fredrikson. She was preceded in death by her parents; Eino and Sadie; step-father, George Falk; husband, John Corgan; granddaughter, Kate Corgan; and brothers; John T. and William “Bill” Koski.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church in Skanee. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with a luncheon to follow. Pastor Peter Suomela is officiating. Interment will take place in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Lung Association.
